Traveling by train always evokes a sense of nostalgia and refreshes many fond childhood memories. My father was in a transferable job and so packing, relocating and long train journeys had become a part of my growing years. Every year during summer vacation we would travel 1000 kms for 2-3 days in the non AC cabin to visit my grand-parents. Dozens of comics, packets of munchies and chit chat with the co passengers.. It was so fun !!!
Mom always packed a home cooked meal for the journey consisting of roti and various other things. Regional food sold in station looked very appetizing.. But then hygiene was a major concern.
Railway pantry food was horrible and I had seen a few passengers buying thalis.. It looked pathetic with the watery dal, dry rice, and hard rotis…
Recently when i had to travel to Goa in the train along with my kids… Like my mom; I thought of packing a lunch box and recreating my childhood memories. But unfortunately due to work I couldn’t cook and I knew Railway pantry food was still horrible! Buying food from the railway platform wouldn’t work as I couldn’t trust their levels of hygiene too.
That was when I stumbled upon RailYatri’s App and was very impressed by the services they could offer. It looked like an oasis for me in that situation and immediately decided to try Food Delivery on Train.
Who are RailYatri?
RailYatri is India’s leading travel app for the discerning Indian train traveller. With it’s set of really travel friendly features like – PNR Status, train ticket confirmation probability, LIVE train status, station information and lots more! However, RailYatri’s most unique offering comes with Food On Train. There is a lot of distrust among the travellers about the quality of Pantry food and station food and this creates a huge gap in the overall experience of a train journey. To overcome this; RailYatri built a robust network of homelike kitchens that serve quality, healthy, hygienic and home like meals on train while operating within the tight timelines.
My experience with RailYatri:
After reading a lot of positive reviews about RailYatri, I decided to give it a try. I had downloaded the Android app prior and had seen that its very simple to use with easy navigations to select food on wheels as per my choice. All I had to do was just enter my PNR / train number and select station for delivery. One may even place order over phone.
There were numerous options to choose from like North Indian, South Indian, Chinese, Mughlai, Vada pav, Non-veg food, Jain food on train and so on. I was impressed to see that they cater milk too. The service will be very beneficial to travelers with babies who need fresh milk.
I ordered a North Indian Thali, Chowmein and some pasta for us. I waited with my fingers crossed and then finally at my station they delivered my desired meals on the train, at my respective seat and that too on time !
I was super impressed by their on time and on seat delivery, the delivery boy was warm and friendly and as I had paid for the order online… I had nothing to worry about.
The WOW box was a smart answer to the clumsy and big dabba we carry on trains. Each dish was packed separately in a leak proof box, extra seasoning, a pre-packed cutlery set, tooth pick & mouth freshener.
My daughter is actually a bit choosy and particular about the taste . I was little anxious about her take on RailYatri’s food but right after the first spoon she said “ Amma this is just like home and so yummy!”
My son loved the soft & cheesy Pasta and he literally licked his fingers till I had to ask him to stop 🙂
I was so relaxed after seeing my kids enjoy their meal because for every mom, if her kids are happy, she is happy. My Kids thoroughly enjoyed the pasta and chowmein. And after settling them with their food, I unboxed my North Indian thali and from no angle it looked like train food.
Everything was so fresh, colorful and non oily .It had Roti, Dal Makhni, Paneer Butter masala, Peas Pulao and Salad !! The rich flavours and packaging left me overwhelmed. The food had homelike taste and I felt as if I am sitting in my kitchen and enjoying my everyday meal.
Another thing I liked about RailYatri is that one can experience the varied local cuisines of different states we pass by on the train, It’s like tasting the many flavours of India on a train.
RailYatri changed my perception of train travel, I now feel that you can enjoy dozens of delicious and hygienic dishes on train and make your journey super yummy! With dishes like Pizza on train, Hyderabadi Biryani, desserts like Rasgulla & Gulab Jamun, it was just like a party. RailYatri is a big gift for mommies like me as kids don’t get cranky on train and we have so many food options to choose from.
Thanks! RailYatri for making our journey super memorable, I suggest all of you should give it a try too. Do share your experiences with me!
