If you are looking for some easy lunchbox recipes or quick fix lunch/ dinner recipes… You must try this Cabbage Rice… hardly takes 10-15 mins if you have cooked rice ready !! This cabbage rice is very simple to make , tasty to taste and quick to make . A good dish to empty leftover rice too.

It tastes good as such and doesn’t need any side dish. However , if you want , you can serve with raita , curd or papad.

Cabbage Rice recipe with step by step photos :

  • Wash rice and pressure cook for 3 whistles by adding required amount of water . Take care not to over cook rice and make them mushy. Once the pressure is released, spread the rice on a plate and allow this to cool.
  • Clean and cut cabbage thin .. ie shredded.
  • In a pan / kadai , heat oil .Add the cumin seeds . Let they splutter .
  • Add in slit green chilli , sliced onion and ginger garlic paste . Saute for 1-2 mins . Let the onions turn translucent and raw smell go.
  • Add in tomatoes , tsp salt and saute till tomatoes are soft
  • Add in green peas , cabbage , salt and fry 1-2 mins. Cover and cook 3-4 mins .
  • No need to add water Retain crunchiness of cabbage. Stir in between
  • Next add masala s one by one ie haldi , red chilli powder , dhania powder and garam masala powder . Mix well . Cabbage mixture is ready .
  • Cabbage mix for rice is ready
  • Lastly add chopped coriander leaves and cooked cooled rice . Mix well . If required add salt .
  • That’s it Cabbage rice is ready to serve . Serve as such or with raita , papad or curd

Points to note while making Cabbage Rice :

  • Take care not to cook rice mushy
  • Retain crunchiness of cabbage .
  • To make it more simple , you can skip ginger garlic paste and dhania powder
  • If you want can add lemon juice too

Ingredients
 

  • 2 cup Cooked Rice
  • 1 1/2 cup 1 1/2 Cabbage , ; thin sliced
  • 1 medium size Onion
  • 1 no Tomato
  • 1/2 cup Peas , fresh/ frozen
  • 1-2 nos Green chilli , slit
  • tsp Ginger garlic paste
  • 2-3 tbsp Oil
  • tsp Jeera
  • tsp Haldi/ Turmeric
  • 1/2 tsp Haldi
  • 1/2 -1 tsp Red chilli powder
  • tsp Dhania powder / Coriander powder
  • tsp tsp Garam Masala Powder
  • Salt to taste
  • Coriander leaves

Instructions
