Boondi Raita is a Creamy and tasty North Indian Style Yoghurt based accompaniment made with curd , Boondi and few spices . A bowl of chilled Boondi Raita… makes a perfect side for any rice varieties/biryani/ pulao/ paratha / even just like that along with your meal. Takes hardly 10 mins to make.
Boondi are tiny balls made from gram flour. If you have ready store bought boondi , making this raita hardly calls for any effort of chopping prepping or any other elaborate procedure . It’s not only super easy to make but also a crowd pleaser be it at parties , functions or for making for guests .
Come summer.. this boondi raita is one my favorite ways to enjoy curd. And that tadka in the end… trust me guys… cherry on top.. takes the raita to next level!!Â
Boondi Raita Recipe with step by step photos :
- Soak 1/2 cup Boondi in warm water for 10 mins .
- In a bowl , take 1 cup chilled yoghurt .
- To the curd add 1 tsp salt , 1/2 tsp Sugar , 1/2 tsp Kala Namak , tsp Jeera powder , 1/2 tsp Red Chilli powder , 1/4 tsp Black Pepper Powder , 1 finely chopped Green Chilli , 1/2 tsp Chaat Masala Powder.
- Whisk curd nicely such that there are no lumps. Let the spices get well combined .
Drain excess water from the boondi using a strainer .
- Add strained boondi to the whisked curd . Add few ice cubes to the curd if you want .
- Add few sprigs of chopped coriander and mint leaves . Combine everything by mixing well . Adjust the consistency . Taste test .
- Time to prepare a tadka . To a small kadai , add a tsp of Oil . Once oil is hot add 1/4 tsp jeera and a pinch of Hing . Splutter.
- Pour the tadka over raita .
- Serve chilled Boondi Raita with paratha / pulav / anything. You can top it with little more fresh boondi while serving for that extra crunchiness .
Points to Note
- Use fresh not too sour curd .
- You can find masala boondi , plain boondi and sweet boondi in market . I prefer plain boondi to make boondi raita .
- Soaking the boondi in warm water for few minutes will help in removing excess oil from Boondi . It will also help in giving a melt in mouth texture for boondi raita .
- Adjust the quantity of all the spices mentioned based on your preference .
- Do not skip jeera powder , its one of the key ingredient for any raita .

Ingredients
- 1 Cup Curd; , thick & fresh
- 1/2 cup Boondi
- 1 Tsp Salt
- 1/2 tsp Sugar
- 1/2 tsp Red Chilli Powder
- 1/4 tsp Pepper Powder
- 1 no Green Chilli;, Finely chopped
- 1/2 tsp Kala Namak / Black Salt
- 1/2 tsp Jeera Powder / Cumin powde
- 1/2 tsp Chat Masala
- few sprigs Few Coriander leaves; , finely chopped
- few sprigs Few Pudina leaves ( optional) , finely chopped
To Temper
- 1/2 tsp Oil
- 1/4 tsp Jeera / Cumin seeds
- Pinch of Hing / Asafoetida
Instructions
- Soak Boondi in warm water for 10 mins .
