About This Recipe :
Thinking what to make for tomorrow’s breakfast? Every day it’s a big headache for most of us. How about some super healthy Instant Dosa’s? Yes , unlike the typical dosa, these moong dal dosa don’t need fermentation . Just soak the moong dal for few minutes and blend well with few spices. That’s it our Moong dal batter is ready.
Made with soaked moong dal and a few more simple flavoring ingredients, moong dal dosa is also called moong dal pudla or moong dal puda in some parts of the country. Crispy and crunchy they are perfect when you want to fix something quick .
I make this dosa often for breakfast/dinner. Can be put together in less than 30 minutes. Addition of Rice flour is optional but adding it makes dosa crisp. Who doesn’t love such quickies 😋.
Ingredients for Moong Dal Dosa :
- Moong Dal : Split moong dal / hesaru bele is the key ingredient.
- Rice Flour : Helps is adding crispiness and avoids sliminess from moong dal .
- Green Chilli : Adds a tint of spiciness.
- Cumin + Ginger : Helps in adding flavor and aids in digestion .
How to make Moong Dal Dosa :
- Wash & soak Moong dal for around 20-30 min in warm water. In regular water around 1 hour.
- Drain the water & add rice flour .
- Grind it along with green chilli, jeera, little ginger and salt.
- Add water and grind smooth.
- Transfer the ground batter to a mixing bowl .
- Adjust consistency by adding water . The batter must be like regular dosa batter consistency , pouring and spreading consistency. You can store the batter in fridge for 1-2 days.
- Grease the tawa with little oil .Let the tawa heat up a bit
- Pour a laddle full of batter and spread thin . Drizzle few drops of oil along the edges.
- Cover and cook on medium flame.
- Once the dosa’s are crisp, fold and serve. No need to flip.
- Enjoy hot moong dal dosa with your choice of chutney or Andhra ginger chutney ( my personal favorite ) .
Few Things to note while making Moong Dal Dosa :
- Soaking the moong dal dosa in warm water for 30 mins not only helps in speeding the soaking process but also makes dosa crispy.
- Don’t soak the dosa for more than 2 hours . Soaking for more time makes the dosa very soft.
- Adding rice flour makes the dosa more crisper . So don’t skip . In case you don’t have rice flour , add 1-2 tsp of corn flour .
- Addition of ginger , jeera and green chilli adds flavour . For extra flavour you can add hing / coriander leaves / curry leaves / Onion .
- If you want you can top the dosa with finely chopped onion / grated paneer / chutney pudi / stuff with aloo palya and make masala dosa.
- Don’t make the batter too thick or thin . Too thick batter makes the dosa hard , thin batter makes dosa sticky.
