Monsoon is probably everyone’s favourite season! The gloomy clouds, windy breeze, pitter patter raindrops, the fragrance of mud, the greenery of trees, a hot cup of Chai accompanied with some pakodas. Everything about Monsoon would make us fall in love with it …We all love to enjoy monsoon in our ways including kids. For kids, it’s the time when puddles become a playground, jumping around trying to catch a frog, sailing colorful paper boats and sneaking out to get drenched in the season’s first shower.

I remember having all these wonderful memories of monsoon from childhood .. but now that I am a Mom of 2 kids, as Monsoon descends, I  am more concerned about my kid’s health. The changing weather brings with it regular coughs and colds that just don’t seem to go away. Though I give them all healthy food, keep them warm. I just can’t control the kinds of infections that they can catch from outside, from their school-mates etc. So I make sure to boost their immunity so that the body is strong enough to resist any potential infections. Want to know how?

Here are 5 ways in which you can increase your little ones immunity this monsoon and keep them happy 🙂

It’s not only providing my kid with the right amount of nutrients but they also love to drink it every single day. Can you believe they haven’t fallen sick at all nor caught a cold? Even in this cold weather.

Soups are one of the best food. Since soups have immune boosting spices like ginger, garlic, onion, pepper, cloves etc in them. it is definitely one of the best food for the monsoon. It helps to keep the body warm as well to fight infections and boost immunity. Vegetable/ green leafy / chicken/ meat in the soup adds more nutrition.

3.Citrus Fruits :

Vitamin C is an important micronutrient to boost the immune system and protect the children against diseases and infections.Citrus fruits such as oranges, lemon, sweet lime, and grapefruit are excellent sources of vitamin C and should be included in the diet.

4. Tulsi:

Tulsi is undeniably one of the best medicinal herbs that are used to treat various infections and allergies. The leaves have antibacterial, anti-fungal and immune-boosting properties. Wash few leaves of Tulsi, crush it slightly with mortar pestle and mix with honey. Using a spoon give it to your child first thing in the morning. Honey also has antioxidant and antimicrobial properties to fight infections. Together they can do wonder .

5. Turmeric :

Turmeric is an excellent exfoliating agent, packed with anti-inflammatory properties, natural antiseptic and anti-bacterial agent. The active component of turmeric “curcumin” is a powerful anti-oxidant and promotes immunity. When I was a kid, I hated cough syrup. And my mom used to prepare turmeric kashaya whenever I had a sore throat .
Boil 2 cups of plain water in the pot.Add ½ tsp of turmeric, small piece of ginger, Indian Borage ( ajwain leaf )  to the boiling water. Simmer for 10 minutes so that water absorbs all the beneficial properties of turmeric and herbs. Switch off and allow it to get warm a bit. Add 2 tsp honey to the kashaya, mix. Turmeric herbal tea is ready.

Motherhood is one of the most challenging, yet lovely experiences we can have. Being a mom comes with its share of lessons and we learn each day of our journey. Children are delicate beings and are prone to get affected by many factors such as changing temperature, pollution, adulteration in foods, and more. We have to deal with the situation and provide our kids with the best to keep them happy and healthy childhood is all about being wild, having fun and enjoying a carefree life. Let our child not miss it and have fun this Monsoon!
