Its basically Shallow / deep fried Ripe Nendra banana pieces dipped in a sugar syrup . Though its named jamun .. look wise it has no resemblance to it . Well .. but taste wise they are equally yum … Even people (like me) who don’t have a sweet tooth love this nendra banana jamun …

Dasara or navaratri is one of the main festivals for Hindus. It is celebrated with great enthusiasm all over India and each region celebrates it in different way.In south India apart from the daily pooja to the Goddess,few people have a tradition of keeping grand Golu at their home( Display of dolls and handicrafts). Arranging Navaratri Golu is an event itself, for it means an occasion for friends and relatives to visit each others home to view and admire the golu.  Each day people make different types of Sundal and desserts . Sharing today a simple dessert Nendra banana jamun which you can try this navaratri . It’s a popular dessert from coastal Karnataka . Like Kerala .. even in coastal Karnataka nendran banana is widely used . We make various dishes out of it .  I have shared a nendra banana halwa earlier .. will share few more later . These nendra banana jamun have remained my all time favorite right from childhood . Do give a try … i am sure you will like it .. here you go ..

NENDRA BANANA JAMUN RECIPE / KERALA NENDRAN BANANA RECIPES

Ingredients
 

  • 2 nos Ripe Nendra Banana, should be ripe yet firm
  • Ghee, For shallow / deep frying
  • 1/2 cup Sugar
  • a pinch Kesar / Saffron
  • 2-3 nos Cardamom, crushed

Instructions
 

  • Peel off the nendra banana and cut into circular discs
  • Shallow fry or deep fry them till they are nice golden brown color both sides . Do in batches . Once done.. drain on a tissue paper .
  • Now take a deep pan . Add Sugar n 1/4 cup water to it . Allow sugar to melt and bring to boil .When the syrup becomes little thick ..switch off and flavor with saffron and crushed cardamom .
  • Throw in fried banana slices and let it rest for 1-2 hours so that they absorb sugar syrup nicely .
  • Sweet slightly tangy and flavorful Nendra banana jamun is ready to serve .
